Inside the story of two very different leadership styles, and how they work better, together.

You’ve probably seen their names pop up in a workshop invite or a LinkedIn post. You may have met Tim in a training session or had a coaching conversation with Sarah. But unless you’ve worked closely with them, you might not know how they work together, or why the faces behind Inner Leader believe that real leadership starts from within.

‘We’re all a work in progress. And that’s where the growth lives.’

This blog isn’t just about who Tim and Sarah are. It’s about how they lead, where they differ, and how their shared values shape the way they support others. It’s also an honest reflection of what they’re still learning, as partners, parents, and business owners.

Different Paths, Same Destination

Tim’s story began in sales and performance coaching. With a background in Applied Psychology and over 20 years’ experience working with senior leaders, high performers and graduates, he’s known for unlocking confidence and clarity with energy and impact. He’s a results-driven coach who blends business psychology with real-world experience, and he’s delivered sessions for teams across professional services, FMCG, R&D, SaaS, retail and recruitment.

Sarah spent two decades in NHS leadership, starting out in mental health and occupational therapy before going on to manage four clinical units and 150 staff. She led through restructures, staff shortages and emotional intensity, often being the calm in the storm. Her approach is anchored in emotional literacy, mindset, and systems thinking, always asking:
“What’s really going on here, and what does this person need to move forward with clarity?”

Together, they built Inner Leader after witnessing the gap first-hand between what most leadership training offers and what people actually need. Leaders don’t just need models. They need mindset shifts, self-awareness, and the confidence to lead in a way that feels authentic and human.

Two Styles, One Shared Philosophy

What makes Inner Leader work isn’t just the tools they teach; it’s the dynamic between this incredible duo.
They have different strengths, different speeds, and different instincts. And over the years, Tim and Sarah have learned how to turn those differences into a real asset for their clients and for each other.

Tim: All-In Energy, Fast Action, Bold Clarity

Meet Tim Cooper-Robbins

Tim is a classic high D/I on DISC; driven, action-oriented, and able to lift the energy in any room. He loves helping people shift from “stuck” to “let’s go”, and is known for his knack of making psychological tools feel like common sense.

But Tim will be the first to say he didn’t always appreciate the value of slowing down. It’s something Sarah taught him.

“I used to think slowing down got in the way of results. Now, I see it’s how you get results that stick. Working with Sarah, and living with her, has helped me see the power of pause, of creating space to think, feel and choose better.” – Tim

Clients say Tim’s sessions feel like the first time they’ve really seen themselves, and the first time they’ve wanted to try something new.

“Tim has a talent for catching people’s attention and keeping them engaged. I’ve learned so much about myself, and how to improve through his actionable advice.” – Sarah

Sarah: Calm Presence, Deep Insight, Quiet Strength

Meet Sarah Cooper-Robbins

Sarah’s profile is S/I with shading into action, calm, emotionally attuned, harmony- seeking, but also full of big ideas and “what ifs.” She brings psychological depth, structured reflection, and a gift for helping people reframe what’s possible.

Her leadership in the NHS taught her how to support others through emotional complexity, often having to hold multiple perspectives and help teams find clarity in chaos.

Tim told us, “There’s a misconception that being a strong leader means wearing an emotional armour.
With Sarah, I’ve learned that authenticity is strength. She goes fearlessly into the hard stuff
and helps you see it clearly; not to judge it, but to work through it.”

He went on to explain that Sarah often notices what others miss. In their family, she’s the one who picks up on the mood, senses when something’s off, and facilitates the conversations that bring everyone back to connection. Her leadership, at work and at home, creates a steadying influence, one that
helps everyone feel safer to grow.

What DISC Taught Tim and Sarah About Themselves, and Each Other

The team at Inner Leader use DISC with almost every client they work with, not as a label, but as a lens. It helps to see others more clearly and respond with more empathy. Here’s how it shows up in their day-to-day:

  • When things get tense, Tim’s instinct is to drive forward. Sarah’s is to slow down and find a resolution. DISC helps us pause, recognise the pattern, and choose better.
  • When working with clients, Tim brings momentum and clarity. Sarah brings depth and reflection. Together, they create space that feels energising and safe.
  • In business, Tim wants to implement the idea yesterday. Sarah wants to reflect. This has led to some classic “tension into growth” moments.

“No sooner have I shared an idea than Tim’s launched it. At first, that was hard for me,  I like time to process. But I’ve come to see it as a gift. His action-orientation stretches me. And even when something doesn’t work out, there’s always learning in the doing.” – Sarah

“Sarah’s need for harmony, at home and in work, has helped me become more conscious of the energy I bring. She’s shown me how slowing down can actually be the fastest route to growth.” – Tim

What It’s Like to Work With Inner Leader

We caught up with Sarah to find out more, and the first question on our lips was simple: What is it like to work with you both? Sarah gladly told us that “Working with us is never about ticking a box. It’s about going deeper, but doing it in a way that feels safe, empowering, and practical. Clients tell us they leave our sessions feeling seen, understood, and equipped.”

And that it is so important to listen to the feedback they receive from each session. One attendee recently said:
“Not only very informative and useful, but delivered with humour and engagement that I haven’t seen in 25 years of going on courses.”

Another told us:
“It’s a training I can actually refer to in my day-to-day life,  not just something I attended and forgot.”

“That’s our aim,” Sarah continued, “Not to impress, but to impact. Not to give people a list of things to do, but to help them upgrade the inner system that drives those actions in the first place.”

Parenting, Partnership, and Imperfect Progress

People often ask Tim and Sarah what it’s like to live and work together. The answer? It’s rich, real, and (like
leadership) a constant evolution.

Tim brings fun, action, and spontaneity; even a trip to the supermarket can turn into an adventure. Sarah brings calm, emotional clarity, and steadiness, the glue that holds things together when emotions run high.

They’ve learned to value — and stretch — each other’s styles. To make room for reflection and momentum. To laugh, reset, and remind themselves that they’re on the same side.

This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about staying in it… together.

Are You Ready To Unlock Your Inner Leader

Why Trust The Team at Inner Leader?

Because they live what they teach.

They’ve done the work, and continue to do it. They know what it’s like to lead through change, to second-guess themselves, to feel the tension between vulnerability and responsibility.

And they know that with the right support, awareness, and mindset shifts, people grow. Teams evolve. Leaders step up. Not just in theory, but in practice.

A client recently told us: “I’ve been on so many courses over the years. Nothing came close to what I experienced with
Inner Leader.”

That’s what lights the team up!

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a leadership development partner who gets that real growth starts on the inside, Tim and Sarah would love to talk.

They told. us:

“We won’t give you a script. We’ll help you find your voice.

We won’t rush to solutions. We’ll help you understand the root.

And we’ll meet you, wherever you are, with the belief that you’re already more capable than you know.

Because the best leaders?
They lead themselves first.
And they never stop learning.” – Tim and Sarah Cooper-Robins
